DC Charger for Onewheel, 2nd Gen

DC Charger for Onewheel, 2nd Gen

Regular price $125.00

Explore beyond the range of power outlets with a portable charger for the Onewheel.  Recharge directly from battery to battery with no conversion to AC, and no need to bring the Onewheel charger.  The kit includes a protective box sized for a standard 36V hoverboard battery, which can provide a single full charge for the Onewheel+.  A controller slides onto the top of the case and converts the output of the battery to the 58.4V that a Onewheel+ and Onewheel Original needs for charging, or the 63V required by a Onewheel XR.  Choose which type of Onewheel you want the charger configured for.

Simply plug the battery in to the input connector of the controller, turn on the Onewheel, then connect it with the charging cable to the output of the controller.  When the battery is empty, it can be recharged with a dedicated battery charger included in the kit.

The charger can be ordered with a box for a single battery, or with a double box for using two batteries at the same time.  When two batteries are linked together, they act as a single battery with double capacity.   They also share the load of charging, and do not heat up as much as a single battery.

High capacity, high quality batteries are available separately from Carvepower here. Each of these is capable of charging a Onewheel+ 1.75 times.  Standard hoverboard batteries are easy to find on Ebay, ranging from $45 to $75.  Search for "36v 4.4AH battery".  Batteries made from Samsung or LG cells will be the best quality, though a little more expensive on average.  Batteries from Ebay will usually provide a little over one charge.  The actual capacity might vary a little, so it is wise to do a test charge before going out into the field.

The DC charger kit and batteries will provide everything you need to stop and charge a Onewheel in the field.  If you want to charge while riding, you will need the special plug and cable of the Charge and RIde Kit here.

Note: Beginning with hardware version 4208, CnR will not work with the Onewheel+ XR.  Check the settings screen in the official Onewheel App to find the hardware version.  Beginning with 4208, the Onewheel will shut off as soon as power is supplied to the charge port, even at speed.  These boards can only be charged while stopped.

When charging while riding (CnR) it's best to use two batteries wired together with a splitter.  In addition to the extra range, they share the load and do not heat up as much as a single battery.  The double battery setup runs cool enough to stay zipped up in a backpack, but a single battery should have ventilation available, or be removed from the backpack while charging.

The kit includes a charger for the hoverboard battery, and a fireproof lipo charging bag to hold them while recharging.  The Li-on cells that make up a hoverboard battery are safe, and fires are extremely rare.  However it is best to only charge them when you are present, and keep them in a fireproof container.
